Guide
No-exam life insurance
Guidelines for who can get accelerated approval, how the process works, and what happens if a traditional exam is needed instead.
Several carriers have embraced accelerated underwriting: using your application, pharmacy records, driving history and other information to reach a decision without a physical exam for applicants who meet their age and coverage limits. Decisions can arrive the same day. Each quote here notes whether the carrier will definitely need an exam, might ask for one, or won't require one.
What it changes
Moving forward without an exam doesn't mean you skip the underwriting checks. The carrier verifies your answers, and a policy issued based on false information can be challenged for two years after issue. If the carrier's investigation turns up something that needs clarification, an exam or labs might still be requested; you can then decide whether to proceed.
Who tends to qualify
Accelerated approval usually reaches applicants under about age 60, applying for coverage not exceeding the carrier's limit, with no significant health conditions and at least a year without tobacco use. A few carriers will use recent blood work from your doctor instead of requiring an exam.
Should an exam be requested, a nurse or paramedic meets you at your home or workplace in Westminster for 20 to 30 minutes at no cost. Healthy applicants sometimes receive better rates after exam results, so it is not always unfavorable.
